Provider Services

GenePharmer, LLC would like to partner with healthcare providers to bring the power of precision prescribing to your patients. Patients benefit most when their healthcare providers work together. The services offered by GenePharmer, LLC are intended to assist patients and providers in holistically looking at a patient’s medications to consider where deprescribing and/or therapy changes would be of benefit to the patient. In addition, pharmacogenomics can be an important proactive tool. For example, if you have a patient newly diagnosed with cancer, you can anticipate that they may eventually be prescribed anti-depressants, anti-nausea medications and pain medications. The efficacy and safety of many of these medications is influenced by the patient’s genetics. Pharmacogenomic (PGx) test results can be used to inform better prescribing.
Genetic traits or conditions are often portrayed as “rare”. When talking about pharmacogenetics, however, nearly everyone can benefit from this information whether the benefit is related to medications currently being taken or medications prescribed in the future. Some statistics to think about:
- Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) guidelines are evidence based and considered standard of care with respect to PGx results. There are currently 26 guidelines with more under development. The guidelines include SSRIs, statins, opioids, oncology meds, PPIs, NSAIDs and others. (Website)
- The recently published Mayo-Baylor RIGHT 10K Study found that 99.4% of patients had a clinically actionable variant in at least 1 of 13 pharmacogenes studied. In addition, 79% of the patients had variants in 3 or more of these genes (Source).
- A case-control study found that patients with mood or anxiety disorder who underwent PGx testing had 40% fewer emergency room visits and 58% fewer inpatient hospitalizations (Source).
- In a randomized clinical trial of patients with depression or anxiety disorders, patients who had PGx testing to guide their therapy saw a 73% response rate compared to 36% in the control group (Source).
